SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION
Imagining lives in a shot.

When I see people on the street, I imagine their lives. I imagine their problems, their lovers, their jobs, their families. I imagine their dreams.

The first man was waiting for his soup, sitting quietly in the restaurant, alone. Silent movements made me imagine he was sad, as if he were going through some old memories.

The girl in the subway seems bored, waiting for the metro to take her home, maybe. She is out of school, looking at me with no surprise in her face. I thought about my own childhood, and I figured that all the kids at this age are having the same strange ideas about life, the same naïve dreams.

The malaysian girl is walking towards me, barefoot. There is no need to imagine anything, I know she is starving and craving for some savory food. She has been daydreaming all day. I shoot, and I imagine and share with her the same expectations about the future.

Chinese old man, reading in his mother tongue while we move fast in the dark. He is conmfortable now, I think. He has no worries. He makes me feel young and fragile.
